I cycled a little further today - a total of 15 miles instead of the usual 13. Along the way I almost rode over a little green caterpillar on the trail. Come to think of it, there were a few animals that I almost rode over, not today, but in general - squirrels, birds (they should know better!) - and definitely a bee or two have collided with me one time or other.
I've been trying to get a cycling jersey, but they are always priced so high. I end up wearing my Threadless Tees. There are a few Tour de France team jerseys I'm interested in getting, but I don't see them come in women sizing, or am I not looking at the right places? Ladies?
Hey all, just want to give a shout out to all the Riders who ride Specialized bikes. I have a group set up called "Specialized Riders". This is an unofficial group set up for fans of Specialized, and it not affiliated with Specialized or their Club. Hope you can join!
Thanks! The URL is http://specialized.groups.vox.com/
My speed has improved a little - my average speed now is 13 mph, but that could just be the wind. heh. A funny thing happened today. Halfway along my ride, I caught up with a guy on a Cannondale mountain bike. I said "on your left", and overtook him. A few seconds later, I saw his shadow on my left. He wanted a race! I was riding at about 13 to 14 mph at the time. The wind was in my face, but I kept on pedaling, and overtook him, again. We went back and forth for a couple more times until he gave up. Well that's what I want to believe. Either way, he didn't follow me. Oh well. It was fun though, this was the first time I had to push myself to beat another person, whether or not he was giving his all, I beat him. Let's just leave it at that. *wink*
I was cycling with my hands on the drops most of the time today, and experienced some numbness of the hands. Any idea how to prevent that? I tried to wriggle my fingers, but that didn't really help.
Summary:
Total distance ~ 13 miles
Ave speed - 13 mph
Time taken - 1 hour
A couple days ago, Cannondale announced that its going to produce a limited edition commemorative Danilo Di Luca model road bike, complete with a white rear triangle and shark-mouthed saddle. These are special System Six bikes and will be numbered from 1 to 21. Priced at about $10 grand.
So, the big question is ... who's getting one?
Today was a great ride, not so windy, and I was able to cycle at 12 mph in mild headwind and about 15 mph back. I think my legs are getting stronger!
I don't know how strong the wind was, but it was strong enough to sway my bike while I was riding this afternoon. Never underestimate the strength of the wind, that's all I can say. Head wind - 10 mph, Tail wind - 17 mph. My arms are a little achy right now since I spent most of the time holding on to the curved part of the handlebars (what do they call that?). Also, I haven't seen many cyclists either, they probably knew something about the wind. Or maybe they were out shopping at Performance Bike (those guys have a noon sale every Tuesday from Noon to 2pm).
So, the weatherman says we are having a foggy and windy day today. I hope the sun would at least peek out in the afternoon, in time for my noon ride.
So today, during lunch, I headed to the nearby trail for my first ride with "White Rabbit" - yes that's the name I'm going to call my new bike. heh. I did not ride alone though. I rode with another biker chick from the Velogirls group. Average speed was about 8 mph, and we chatted more than really riding. The trail was pretty flat, and other than changing gears just for the heck of it, and lowering it when the wind picked up, I was pretty much in the same gear the whole time.
At the end of the ride I noticed that my seat had gotten loose and was moving from side to side. Turned out the seat collar was facing the wrong way. A simple turning to the right side (facing the back wheel) fixed it.
I'm looking forward to more riding tomorrow.
